The Iwona and Bjarne Rieber Charitable Foundation
Bjarne Rieber passed away suddenly at his home on 7 May 2024, at the age of 87. He remained actively involved in all aspects of community life until the very end.
The Iwona and Bjarne Riebers Charitable Foundation (IBRAS) and its mission were close to his heart, and throughout the years he served as an enthusiastic champion of the Foundation’s work. The Board of the Foundation feels a deep responsibility and a strong commitment to continue its efforts in the spirit of Bjarne Rieber and in accordance with the values he represented.
The Iwona and Bjarne Rieber Charitable Foundation was established in 2006, when Bjarne Rieber turned 70, and it is dedicated to serving charitable purposes. These include, but are not limited to, cultural, scientific, and humanitarian purposes.
The foundation can make distributions in Norway and internationally.
Iwona and Bjarne Rieber have always had a strong interest and heartfelt passion for art and culture in a broad sense. They have wished to share this passion with others, and have been committed both to enabling the practice of art and to making its experience accessible.
Among their many generous contributions for the benefit of Bergen’s population and the international cultural scene are their sponsorships of the Bergen International Festival, KODE (art museums and composer homes), and the Bergen Philharmonic Orchestra. Similar support has also been given to the renowned American ensemble The Paul Taylor Dance Company and the London Opera House.
Iwona and Bjarne Riebers’ strong dedication to promoting culturally enriching activities has shaped the Foundation’s work since its establishment in 2006, and will continue to do so in the future.
Applications are processed annually and must be submitted to the foundation by May 10th each year.
